Travel halfway around the world and experience the majesty of Malaysia as we invite you to a special evening on Malaysian soil with cultural music, dance, food, drinks, art, and more.  On 23 June 2022, the Embassy of Malaysia will be opening its doors, exclusively for our members,  to showcase Malaysia’s rich culture and tradition to the public.

Malaysia is one of the most beautiful countries in Asia, let alone the world.   Learn more about its land, history, and culture in one fantastic evening. Join the diplomats as we experience centuries of culture from this southeast Asian treasure.

PROGRAM:

1) DIPLOMATIC WELCOME 

Meet the Malaysian diplomats and diplomatic staff of the Embassy who will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

2) MALAYSIAN TOURISM AND CULTURAL FILM

A film highlighting the beauty and culture of Malaysia will be featured right after the Ambassador’s welcoming remarks.

3) MALAYSIAN ARTIFACTS AND DISPLAYS

Take your time to explore the various promotional booths by our agencies, the Ministry of Agriculture, Malaysian Palm Oil Board and Education Malaysia. Enjoy browsing through our local products such as beverages, spices and instant-meals.  We also have a special booth by the Ladies Association selling Malaysian handicrafts, woven bags and hand-crafted material called batik. ​

4) MALAYSIAN FOOD

In Malaysia, the favorite pastime is to eat at hawker stalls. Discover, experience, and enjoy our country’s rich culinary heritage at the various hawker stalls parading their ware, all influenced by the multi-ethnic composition of Malaysia. Sample authentic Malaysian dishes prepared by Malaysians themselves, including:

Chicken Satay with Condiments

Nasi Lemak Bungkus (Coconut Rice and Condiments Wrapped in Banana Leaf)

Ayam Goreng Berempah (Chicken Fried in Spices)

Mee Goreng Mamak Vegetarian (Fried Noodles Indian Style)

Nasi Minyak (Ghee Rice)

Kurma Kambing (Mutton Kurma)

Jelatah (Pickled Mixed Vegetables)

Karipap Ayam (Chicken Curry Puffs

Kuih Seri Muka (Glutinous Rice with Custard topping)

Cucur Badak (Tapioca balls with Savory Coconut filling)

Bingka Ubi (Cassava Cake)

Teh Tarik (Frothed Milk Tea)

Sirap Bandung (Red Syrup with Condensed Milk)

5) LIVE TRADITIONAL MALAYSIAN DANCE PERFORMANCE BY GEMALA SITRA 

a) Traditional Performance by Gemala Sitra

Malaysia has always been known to be a melting pot of cultures and traditions, of colorful costumes and mesmerizing dances. Tonight's native Gemala Sitra dance troupe will showcase beautiful traditional dances highlighting the rich and colorful heritage of Malaysia’s multi-racial communities all living together in harmony. They will showcase a beautiful traditional dance that originates from the southern part of Malaysia called the Zapin.

b) Semi-Classical Indian Performance by Patricia and Nanthenni

Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance form that originated in south India, has evolved from the dance of the Indian diaspora community to a dance form that is being practiced by multi-ethnic dancers in Malaysia. This dance performance explores the development of the dance form in the country and gives it a special twist! The costumes also highlight the rich and colorful heritage of Malaysia’s multi-racial communities all living together in harmony
